On Friday, December 9, 2022, the owners of a to-be constructed DQ Grill & Chill held a religious ground blessing and ceremonial groundbreaking at their future site located at 1610 North State Street, in Belvidere, Illinois.

Belvidere and Boone County are experiencing an increase in diversified industries and businesses, contributing to economic growth.  The addition of DQ Grill & Chill is one of many businesses that have chosen to make Belvidere their home. This groundbreaking celebrated the owners’ expansion into the Belvidere market and the positive impact it makes in Belvidere’s retail growth.

This new 2500 square foot location marks the 14th Dairy Queen to be owned by Neal Patel and family. What makes this location so unique is it is the family’s first new construction within the franchise.

Belvidere Mayor Clinton Morris commented, “There is a first time for everything, and we are glad you chose us for this new construction.”

Mayor Morris continued by welcoming the Patel Family to Belvidere and thanking them for making this investment into the City of Belvidere.

The future home of DQ Grill & Chill, which plans to hire 40-50 employees, is also located within the Belvidere-Boone County Enterprise Zone. This allows them to receive additional incentives such as half costs on building permits, potential property tax savings and an exemption on Illinois Sales Tax on building materials.

Pamela Lopez-Fettes, Executive Director of Growth Dimensions Economic Development, acknowledged, “We’ve estimated that this project will save the Patels more than $70,000 in sales tax exemptions, alone.”

The restaurant’s anticipated opening is the end of May 2023.
