Program Description:
Here is a quick reminder to register for this upcoming webinar. As administrators and elected officials in counties and communities across Illinois, you work hard each and every day to make sure that your region is as attractive as possible to business owners, executives and other professionals who are responsible for finding locations for establishment or expansion of their businesses. You need to be aware of and informed about some of the tools used by professionals involved in the site-selection process, to help you present your communities and regions in their best light.
On Feb. 15, 2023, at noon, join your colleagues from around the state for a webinar sponsored by University of Illinois Extension and Rural Partners entitled “Intersect Illinois and Site Selection: A Review for Community Leaders.” Our presenters will be Paulina San Millan and Josh Weidenaar, from Intersect Illinois, an independent, not-for-profit economic development organization that, in collaboration with DCEO and other partners throughout the state, serves as a resource for those interested in doing business in Illinois and markets the state’s position as a business destination. They will introduce you to the electronic platform and software tools that Intersect Illinois uses to market Illinois to the world.
About the Speakers:
Paulina San Millan is the Vice President of Business Development for Intersect Illinois and leads its Business Development Team, where she oversees projects and develops strategies on how to best market the state and to attract opportunities to Illinois. Paulina has 15 years of experience working in economic development. She spent time working at the local level with the City of Albuquerque as a trade specialist and, while working at the SBDC, assisting small businesses to become export-ready. Paulina has focused on business attraction and site selection while working for New Mexico Partnership (state organization in NM), for Newmark Knight Frank as a site selection consultant and, for the past five years, for Intersect Illinois. Ms. San Millan earned an MBA from the University of New Mexico’s Anderson School of Management. She also holds a B.A. in economics from the University of New Mexico.
Josh Weidenaar is Intersect Illinois’ Director of Research. A graduate of Michigan State University with a B.S. in Environmental Studies & Sustainability & minor in Economics, Josh found an interest in the intersection of urban economics, the built environment, and planning. This led him to pursue a career in economic development, where an opportunity at an EDA University Research Center fueled an interest in public data, analytics and research. Since starting as an intern at Intersect Illinois in 2018, Josh has helped grow the organization’s research department and its capabilities. Josh’s work includes management, economic development workforce and cluster analyses, prospecting, and much more.
