Boone County is the 4th fastest growing county in the State of Illinois.  According to the 2004 special census, the county population has reached 47,611 up from 30,806 in 1990.  Belvidere, “The City of Murals” with a population of 20,820, is the county seat, and Capron, Caledonia and Poplar Grove are small communities to the north.

Belvidere-Boone County is 75 miles from downtown Chicago on Routes 20, 76 and the Northern Illinois Toll road, with the Kishwaukee River (one of Illinois' few Class A Rivers) dividing the town.  The countryside is scenic, gently rolling, productive farmland, along with many rural subdivisions.  Belvidere and North Boone school districts and four parochial schools provide quality education programs.  There is a wealth of leisure time activities right here in Boone County or you may choose to drive a few miles to find exactly what you would like to do.

The interstate highways make it easy to travel from Boone County to Chicago, Madison and Milwaukee, between 70 and 90 miles away, and nearby Rockford is just a few minutes to the west.
